Commulite is a company that does more. While our communal lighting systems represent the pinnacle of energy saving technology, we are also committed to creating a brighter future by sponsoring schemes that will help improve the lives of young people in the communities we serve.
We already donate £1 to ‘Action for Children’ for every luminaire we sell, which goes towards projects that help young people in the communities where the lights are sold. This summer we will send 6 deserving young people (aged between 12 and 16) from the London Borough of Newham on a sailing course at the Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre in London, an award winning training centre recognised by the Royal Yachting Association.
The course will take place over four consecutive Fridays in August, with all costs including travel, food and fees to be met by Commulite. The lucky course attendees will achieve their RYA Level 1 sailing qualification, and in the process be brought up to racing standards. On the final day there will be an opportunity race for the Adam Bishop Cup, named in memory of Commulite founder John Bishop’s son, himself a keen sailor.
John created the Brighter Futures scheme to introduce underprivileged kids to aspects of life that they might have otherwise have never experienced, believing strongly that that the skills learned in sailing can be a source of lifelong pleasure, potentially inspiring young people to achieve great things.
All those who complete the course will be offered free club membership for one year, meaning they can to continue to sail and develop their skills.
Commulite will put up posters in schools throughout the Newham borough inviting pupils to apply and explain why they feel they should be given the opportunity to learn to sail. The selection process will be approved and vetted by teachers and qualified personnel from Newham council.
